I like the panning on the ahhs - that's what I do too. same thing with chorus vocals. although you need to automate the vox or add more compression - the volume is a bit erratic. I like the choices of where you placed the lead and harmony though. Very intimate.
Interesting effect on the acoustic and drums. love the experimentation. makes the acoustic sound like a 12 string.
Overall this is a different take on this song. I like that the vocals are sound pronounced but is it to the detriment of the music bed? Was this a conscious choice? or more of a product of what you mixed it on? in my car, the music is REAL quiet and the vocals are REAL loud. I'd be curious to hear what would happen if you brought the music and vocals a little bit closer - would the mix totally change? be better? worse? hard to tell.
I think your volumes choices for the music though are pretty tasteful. The keyboard swells are quiets but pop in
from time to time. The two chorus guitars help accentuate the chorus and the eerie sells are tucked in.
pedal steel guitar swells might sound better with more reverb
ending swells aren't really part of the song - or at least could be faded out
